Over 100 signature collected for Sharks in Peril

Students at Amnuay Silpa School, Bangkok, Thailand collected over 100 signatures for the Sharks in Peril Petition.

As part of Green club ran by www.kohtaoseals.com owner IDC Staff Instructor Joey Curbishley students created a stand to show their work and at the lunch hour spoke to all the staff and got their signature for Sharks in Peril.

Students also made a Big Shark Out poster that fellow students wrote messages about sharks and were given stickers to raise even further awareness.

Discarded Net Removed from the TAR Park, Kota Kinabalu

It was an action-packed weekend for the divers at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island, who assembled to remove another discarded net from our beloved TAR Park in Kota Kinabalu.

After reporting the net and obtaining the relevant permissions, resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann assembled members from our staff team and Go Pro interns to attack the net.

The net removal procedure was explained to the team in a thorough, tailored dive briefing, after which they set off to the site to do the needful.

Beach Clean Up 2012

As part of Dive Academy’s strong commitment to the international Project Aware programme we teamed up with one of our local schools BSA (British School of Alicante) to do a beach clean up at San Gabriel beach near Alicante.

Dive for Debris 2012

On Sunday 19th February we held DIVE FOR DEBRIS in partnership with Project AWARE.
Divers came and joined us on a clean up operation at one of our local diving sites, Manly Cove, inbetween Manly Wharf and Oceanworld.
As well as divers two representatives from The Two Hands project came down to help with cleaning up the beach and surrounding area.

Underwater Vision's 2nd Dive Against Debris Day

Underwater Vision's 2nd Dive Against Debris day was a success. The 5 participants started early, at 7am, when we headed out to the dive site here on Utila. The excitement ran high and we were ready for the day.

Due to the pleasant weather we'd had over the past few weeks before our event, we did not find as much debris as we thought we would. While being a bit disappointed about the little amount of debris found, we were nevertheless glad to find our reef less cluttered then we initially had expected.

Calypso Dive Against Debris

The Calypso Diving team got together for a Dive Against Debris on our White Beach house reef this Sunday at 1pm. Our two PADI Divemaster interns commencing their pro training joined us for their first Project AWARE dive. During the dive, we were pleased to see some lovely sightings on the house reef, including two pairs of robust ghost pipefish and a seahorse! Within an hour the team had also collected an estimated 7 - 8 kgs of trash ranging from plastic and tin cans to a lens cap and a bracelet.

Chalok Land and Underwater Clean-up

Another successful day here on Koh Tao. On the 28th of January 14 instructors, DMT's and fun divers conducted a land and underwater clean-up of over 2 and a half hours, covering 4,500 square meters and collecting over 50 kilos of trash! One exciting observation was only 3 batteries were collected. Does this mean that batteries are being disposed of in the proper way? We hope so!

Shark Conservation Specialty Class held in Florida - Jupiter Dive Center

On Saturday, January 14, 2012 Jupiter Dive Center in Jupiter, FL held a Project Aware Shark Conservation Distinctive Specialty Course. Students gathered at the shop in the morning for class and then headed offshore for a 2 tank dive. Specialty Instructors Heather Anderson and Amy Lesh led the class

H2O Divers Dahab's first clean-up dive

Our objective was to get rid of as many trash and debris that we could find in Dahab's Bannerfish Bay. On Saturday morning, 13 divers and 4 non-divers were present to do so: 5 underwater buddy teams and a beach cleanup team to make the entrance to the dive site and the dive site look beautiful and welcoming again!
