From November 11 students from South Island School (Hong Kong) spent 5 days with Ecofieldtrips during which time they carried out a reef survey in conjunction with East Marine Divers and Coral Watch. They also attended lectures on coral reef conservation and shark protection. The Coral Watch survey is based on the new PADI Distinctive Speciality which integrates global monitoring of coral bleaching with education about coral reef conservation. The Coral Watch organisation is based at The University of Queensland (www.coralwatch.org). The students surveyed the reefs of Pula Payar in South Langkawi, which is a Marine Protected Area. In the lead up to the trip the students organised various events to raise money which they have donated to PADI Project Aware.
