The province of Negros Occidental, Philippines will be celebrating its 21st Provincial Environment Week (PEW) in June 2013 pursuant to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance No. 152, series of 1993. “An Ordinance declaring the 4th week of June as the Provincial Environment Week”. The weeklong activity is meant to raise the environmental awareness and consciousness of Negrenses on the importance of the different ecosystem as basic life support system. Anchored on the Ridge to Reef approach, the provinces will also several environment-related activities in collaboration with the 31 Local Government Units (LGUs) of the province.
In line with this, the Provincial Environment Management Office will launch and conduct a Scubasurero: Reef and Coastal Cleanup on June 22, 1013 in the three (3) identified Local Government Units (LGUs) that include the City of Sipalay, City of Sagay and San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Philippines. SCUBAsurero means a group of divers or individual who voluntarily join the reef and clastal cleanup. SCUBAsurero is a synchronized coastal and dive cleanup in the 3 LGUs will definitely heighten the awareness and consciousness of the community, encourage community attention and action on current environmental issues and concerns and promote behavioural change towards sustainable development.
