In 2010, participants spotted a Whale Shark never before recorded in either Project Aware's Whale Shark Program database (run by Shark Trust) or Ecocean's photo library. By submitting data & photos, we can now track where this whale shark is seen as it migrates through the Andaman Sea and potentially around the world. Will it return to Richelieu Rock again?

Last season we added Turtle Awareness to our Whale Shark Program. Turtles & Whale Sharks are both endangered species that frequent our local sea. Blue Guru therefore offers participants in our Whale Shark Program the opportunity to learn about the biology, distribution & behaviour of Whale Sharks & Turtles; how to identify them; the threats they face; and how divers can help conserve these endangered species.

In 2012, Blue Guru added Shark Conservation Diver to the eco-education element of this trip. Participants who complete the program will therefore gain 3 PADI specialties, as well as developing their knowledge about awesome whale sharks, shark conservation & turtles.

This program is offered from January - April, co-inciding with whale shark season in the Andaman Sea.

The 8 day trip includes 4 nights at Golden Buddha Resort on Koh Phra Thong followed by 4 nights on a liveaboard, with 14 dives across Similans, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai & Richelieu Rock.

No, sadly we cannot ring up the whale shark and ask them to be at Richelieu Rock at the exact time/date we are planning to dive!
We were lucky enough to see whale shark in 2010 & this year.
In 2011 we were treated to an increased number of manta ray sightings instead, which was equally awesome.
