Marine Debris Action Teams Begin Sea Turtle Nesting Beach Clean Ups!

Partnering with EcoTeach at Estacion de Tortugas on the remote Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, volunteers joined me to remove deadly plastic debris from nesting beaches for endangered leatherback sea turtles.

Marine Debris Action Teams Begin Sea Turtle Nesting Beach Clean Ups!

My Ocean Hero project is going great! The main project is to work on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica transforming nesting beach patrol stations into action and awareness centers working to remove marine debris from this critical ocean habitat. Three days of Caribbean cleanups at Estacion de Tortugas launches the effort and goes above and beyond the original scope! We have removed over 115 lbs of garbage so far from nesting beaches.

An aluminum sign purchased with Project AWARE Ocean Hero funds will be permanently installed at Estacion de Tortugas and seen by hundreds of local and international students who visit this camp each year to learn about sea turtle conservation and ocean plastic pollution, and major threat to leatherback sea turtles.
