The global shark survey needs data from divers who have seen sharks. The Sabah shark Survey managed over 6000 hours of underwater observations for sharks in 2010 & 2011. With the data we have persuaded the government to protect all sharks. How did we do 6000 dives - easy - we simply collected the information from all the dive centres and divers we knew.
Almost everyone records their dives in a logbook so the data on when each diver sees a shark is already recorded. Simple stuff, where - when - how many dives/hours underwater at that place (holiday for example) - how many sharks seen.
