Scuba Divers Search for Potatoes and Smash Fundraising Goal

Perfect sunny weather and clear diving conditions gave Manly scuba divers a chance to smash their goal in the underwater hunt for potatoes.

Over 100 divers joined Dive Centre Manly’s Underwater Treasure Hunt at Cabbage Tree Bay.  Smashed potatoes were on the menu as this bunch of enthusiastic divers searched the seabed for soggy spuds.

And they smashed another goal too, raising over $1,460 for ocean protection. All donations go to Project AWARE Foundation, a global non-profit protecting our ocean planet, one dive at a time

Like much of Egypt - and many other developing nations - Dahab has a rubbish problem.

During the Dahab Bedouin Festival, we are collecting locations of 'rubbish hot spots' (around collection bins, etc). On 18 April - designated Environmental Day for the Festival, and also very near to Earth Day, we'll tackle as many hot spots as we can.

The clean-up will focus on the residential area Assalah in particular, where local people are facing an extreme rubbish problem.

An exploratory dive to investigate what debris is lingers in one of  La Herradura's many dive sites, and an expedition to clear it up whilst we're are in the area.

An oppertunity to give something back to the waters that have given us so much.

Bring yourself, your equipment, a bottle and a bag you can use to deposit the debris in.

“Today we changed the mindset of 13 Divemasters and 4 Instructors and I know they will be AWARE for the rest of their lives,” said Jens Nielsen Ban’s PADI Staff instructor.  It was a memorable day for Jens and fellow instructor Simon from Ban's Diving Resort, Koh Tao, Thailand who taught their first AWARE Shark Conservation course.

El tercer fin de semana del mes de Septiembre, buceadores de todo el mundo nos reunimos para participar de la limpieza de playas y fondos marinos, en esto Aquasub no se podía quedar atrás, ya llevamos varios años organizando y llevando a cabo esta labor, en la que no solamente involucramos a los buceadores, sino que procuramos involucrar a la gente de la región para que se sensibilice y la importancia de cuidar y mantener limpia su playa, su hábitad.

Be green on the greenest day of the year, St. Patricks day!  Come join us to help combat trash both in and out of the ocean.  This beach is one of the dirtiest beaches in the Monterey Bay area so there should be plenty of unique "treasure" to be discovered.  This event will count towards earning your PADI AWARE specialty, which also counts towards the Master Diver certification.  All are welcome, non divers can participate topside and earn a certificate of participation!  If you are interested, please contact Chris or Ginny at Any Water Sports!
