Finn and Finley

May. 30/12

On World Oceans Day 08th June 2012, Project AWARE mascots, Finn and Finley, will return to the Project AWARE office where their touring adventures started a year ago. MORE

I have had an excellent day with Darren and Katy from Sub-Mission Dive Centre today. They put me in charge of filling cylinders, sorting the equipment logistics and loading the van! Phew! Then, this afternoon, I was also put to work serving customers. I must admit I was a hit with Sub-Mission's regular divers and customers, especially the ladies.

I was still exhausted from my attempt to get to Kenya so I slept most of the day. Unfortunately though I was suffering from nightmares, which were a mix of plastic oceans and sharks with no fins! In fact the nightmares were so vivid that I awoke with a start and hid amongst the foliage to hide from the shark fishermen…but it turned out to be Darren from Sub-Mission!

After a traumatic time trying to get to Kenya, I finally arrived back in the UK at Sub-Mission Dive Centre, in Stoke on Trent. I still had a bit of seaweed wrapped around my dorsal fin when I met Darren and Katy, owners of Sub-Mission Dive Centre.

I was so excited that I woke up super early! I was keen to get to the swimming pool to get started on the fin-athon. There were so many people that turned up at 8.00am that there wasn't enough room in the swimming pool for me! So I watched Sub-Mission's divers swimming up and down and I cheered them on from the side.

Finley the shark, star of Shark on Tour, was unceremoniously squeezed into my dive bag for the 40+ journey across the world from Australia to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for the PADI Course Director Training course. She arrived unscathed, and joined me and the PADI staff for a dive on the wreck of the "Patricia" just off the fringe reefs of Punta Cana. She then joined the group of candidates from the CDTC, and was formally introduced during Suzanne Pleydell's Project AWARE presentation.
