On 12th June 2011, PADI Platinum Course Director, Camille Lemmens will swap his scuba diving fins for running shoes as he participates in the Laguna Phuket International Marathon, Thailand to raise funds for our ocean planet.

“I've taken part in many marathons but this year I wanted to do something a little different. So I’m raising funds for Project AWARE, whose goal is to encourage and inspire divers to be part of the solution for ocean protection.” says Lemmens.

Here at Brisbane Dive Academy we run regular cleanup activities and join in during Cleanup Australia Day and International Cleanup Day.

Downunder in Oz we love to hold barbeques so whenever our divers have done a good cleanup dive we spark the BBQ ready for action. We charge our divers a gold coin donation and over the past year have raised over $600 for Project AWARE.

“We charge AU$60 to dive on the cleanup day and AU$30 is donated to Project AWARE for every person who attended. It’s as easy as that!” says Mick Wheatley.

To help celebrate the launch of the new Project AWARE, Thresher Shark Divers Malapascua will be hosting a very special event on June 8th.

Our House Reef is an artificial reef that has been under construction for 2 years.  It is already attracting lots of coral growth and marine life.

We will be adding another structure to this reef: one of our old boats will be sunk, upside down. These boats attract coral growth and provide a covered environment for all manner of fish life to hide :-)
