There are so many reasons to not do something incredible or remarkable. Classic excuses for not becoming involved. But for the past 20 years as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Project AWARE is proud to say, most of what we’ve heard is the splash of countless, inspiring AWARE divers, doing what we do best - just diving in.
This year, as we blow out 20 candles and celebrate 20 years of ocean protection – we celebrate you – the remarkable, the passionate ocean hero. And we can't help but feel invigorated for the challenges ahead.
Project AWARE turned 20 this October – that’s when we received the official nonprofit charity status. And we’re kicking off the celebration with you. First stop? The DEMA Show 2012 from 14-17 November in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. If you're a dive professional attending the show, stop by and help launch the next decade of ocean protection. We can’t do it without you!
Step Inside the Photo Booth – Say cheese! The 20 year celebration begins by asking you to share your views on ocean protection. What does it mean to you to have a clean, healthy ocean planet?
Vincent Mock’s deep love for the ocean is apparent through his art where he explores the human disconnection from nature in an ironic way – sculpting ocean predators from the very fish hooks that threaten their survival. A fellow PADI Divemaster and artist, Mock has traveled and dived the world over. Here he discusses his Hooked on Life series.
After seven years of unlimited dedication and leadership, Jenny Miller Garmendia, current Executive Director of Project AWARE Foundation, is leaving her position to resume her research and work in marine policy.
For the past seven years, Jenny led the Foundation through major growth and restructuring. Her accomplishments include the launching of the new Project AWARE in 2011 and a major initiative to engage the global tribe of divers in protecting the ocean planet.
Everyday divers can be ocean heroes too. The next time you complete a PADI certification course (or replace a lost certification card) you can become an ocean hero in one simple step: make a small donation to select the Project AWARE version of your card.
What happens next? You get a cool picture card to show off your support and 100 percent of your donation supports Project AWARE ocean initiatives to protect the places you love to dive.
What a lively and inspiring evening! If you missed out on the excitement last Saturday, 12th November, Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Project AWARE's Artisans of the Sea event was buzzing when three amazing marine artists stole the show.
Wyland, Rogest and Blu Rivard, not only spoke about their personal involvement in ocean protection and their passion and support for Project AWARE Foundation, the artists also donated artwork for a silent auction in support of Project AWARE's conservation campaigns.
Long-time Project AWARE supporter, Pedro Mendes, is passionate about wildlife and conservation. But this year, he’s taking that passion to a whole new level. Pedro has pledged to raise £2,000 for ocean protection through Project AWARE by 31st December. And he’s not taking this pledge lightly.
I've known about Project AWARE for quite a while, even two weeks ago when I wasn't qualified, and I've always wanted to be a part of it. Now I'm a member, and I have my own 'My Ocean' page, I can see what AWARE are doing for the ocean, and how I can be a part of it.
