After seven years of unlimited dedication and leadership, Jenny Miller Garmendia, current Executive Director of Project AWARE Foundation, is leaving her position to resume her research and work in marine policy.

For the past seven years, Jenny led the Foundation through major growth and restructuring. Her accomplishments include the launching of the new Project AWARE in 2011 and a major initiative to engage the global tribe of divers in protecting the ocean planet.

What a lively and inspiring evening! If you missed out on the excitement last Saturday, 12th November, Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Project AWARE's Artisans of the Sea event was buzzing when three amazing marine artists stole the show.

Wyland, Rogest and Blu Rivard, not only spoke about their personal involvement in ocean protection and their passion and support for Project AWARE Foundation, the artists also donated artwork for a silent auction in support of Project AWARE's conservation campaigns.

Long-time Project AWARE supporter, Pedro Mendes, is passionate about wildlife and conservation. But this year, he’s taking that passion to a whole new level. Pedro has pledged to raise £2,000 for ocean protection through Project AWARE by 31st December. And he’s not taking this pledge lightly.

Hello! 

I've known about Project AWARE for quite a while, even two weeks ago when I wasn't qualified, and I've always wanted to be a part of it. Now I'm a member, and I have my own 'My Ocean' page, I can see what AWARE are doing for the ocean, and how I can be a part of it.

It’s been 21 years since Project AWARE first began. The world of scuba diving was much different then. And so were the ways of conservation. We were still learning about the issues and educating ourselves on sustainable practices underwater.

As the AWARE mission, logo and strategies have evolved over the years, so have the environmental priorities of the world. And together, we step up our efforts for the ocean wherever they’re needed most. Now, we’re prioritizing shark protection and working to eliminate marine debris from the world’s ocean.
