Shark Petitions and World Ocean Day

On June 8 we celebrated World Ocean Day - did you have a good one? We did!

World Ocean Day this year was all about inspiring the youth to make them aware of ocean conservation.

Downbelow got involved through Project AWARE’s Give Sharks A Chance petition, a coordinated effort by Project AWARE to collect 100,000 signatures by World Ocean Day to highlight the plight of sharks to world policy makers.

AWARE Re-launch Party

In April 2010, the Icelandic Volcano got me stuck in California where I was attending a Project AWARE global staff meeting to discuss the current state of our ocean planet and re-defined a clear, positive vision for the future. An epic journey back home and 14 months of team work later, I celebrated with my Project AWARE and PADI colleagues the re-launch of our organization with a new logo, website, mission, and strategies for ocean protection.
