All About Scuba Raise Funds for Conservation
May 2010 - Keen diver and small business owner Austin Williams has launched a range of T-shirts featuring marine species under threat, with a percentage of sales donated to Project AWARE. The T-shirts feature iconic species like sharks, whalesharks, turtles and manta rays. All these species face pressure from human activities including habitat destruction, over-exploitation of natural resources and pollution. Today, scientists predict animals are going extinct at 100 to 1,000 times the typical rate. Currently three quarters of pelagic sharks and ray species are threatened with extinction. Fundraising is a great way to support Project AWARE in its mission to protect our ocean planet. Since launching the brand in 2009 Austin has raised nearly AUD $1000 for underwater conservation.
"My reason for donating to the Project AWARE Foundation is simple. Project AWARE works towards the protection and health of the aquatic realm for the future. Being involved with the oceans I feel we all need to help nurture and protect them in any way we can," said Austin. Visit All About Scuba www.dive-t-shirts.com to order online.
