Action Highlights

We had another successful underwater cleanup on Saturday September the 21st.  Eleven divers cleaned up different parts of Little Pond in Morton Park, Plymouth MA where we have conducted underwater cleanups at for many years.  Each year the pond looks better and this year we were happy to see groups of small fish in different parts of the pond that we haven't seen before!

Many Thanks to all the volunteers that made a differece this weekend!

The world that we can save.

We raised $400 through our BBQ & raffle at our annual Dive Against Debris event this weekend. We had some awesome weather and a great turnout - 45 attendees removed a lot of trash (including 77 golf balls and a full set of clubs. Clearly someone had a bad game).

Our new mesh bags were a big hit and so useful, we had several people ask to buy them.

We also held a few related specialty courses (buoyancy for example) and will issue some certs as part of our 100% AWARE partnership.

September being Debris Month of Action, candidates at the Kota Kinabalu Instructor Examination did their share during their Open Water session to clean up the unusual amount of trash that washed up on the beach due to the high tides of the month.

Thank you to IE candidates Mohsen Kariminia, Roberto De Cave, Hannah Gee, Liau Fung Yung, Rayner Petrus, Kaman NG, Samuel Gee, Course Directors Richard Swann and Chong Hion Hoak, PADI Examiner Mario Beaucage and all the staff at DownBelow for doing what everybody should do:  Care for our environment and get involved.

Only divers have the skills to remove underwater marine debris so on Sunday 8th September 2013 at 5pm, 21 local divers got together for a Dive Against Debris event at Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas. The location was the coral reef surrounding the Anthony Bell shipwreck. Divers, working in teams, removed roughly 70lbs of debris including fishing line, lures, hooks, foam insulation, plastic pipes, plastic fragments, beverage bottles, rope, cloth and metal items.
