After the island was devastated in 2014 by cyclone Ita and cyclone Nathen a few months later debris from these events is still evident in the water prompting divers to run the islands first Dive Against Debris event. In addition to this the resorts house reef has been adopted with divers pledging to do monthly clean ups and checks reporting data back to Project AWARE.
Calling all divers! We're teaching a Shark Conservation Specialty course AT COST to help spread awareness of the threats these beautiful creatures face. I will give a two hour presentation on sharks: their unique features, the threats they face, the impact of a decline in numbers and how we can HELP. We will then go on two dives to look at sharks and the threats in this area.
We will be diving Criccieth on Saturday the 18th June, and collecting any rubbish that we see! This spot is a beautiful area, packed with various marine creatures and is important to keep it this way, through doing our bit to protect and clean the area. Please get in touch if you would like to join by emailing Duttons divers. We have a group together, but more are welcome.
For 2016 Earth Day, we are cleaning up under the Pier at the Tugboat Dive Site. An area very popular with the local fisherman, which unfortunately has led to a great build-up of old fishing line, fish cans and beer bottles amongst other unwanted debris. Dry volunteers always welcome to help clean up the beach / land in the area :)
