- My Summary
I started diving at the age of 8 and haven't turned back. Growing up on the water with my father, a commercial fisherman in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, I was surrounded by conservation issues on a daily basis. After graduating with degrees in Marine Biology and Conservation I decided to put my experience and love for the ocean to good use and moved to Mexico where I helped educate local fishing communities on the importance of conservation and sustainable fishing practices. I also helped monitor the Meso-American Barrier Reef system and was able to dive some of the most untouched reefs in Central America. As as PADI OWSI I try to encourage my students to be respectful of the ocean environment and get involved as much as they can. As a Project AWARE Specialty Instructor and CoralWatch Instructor, I make it a point to get divers new and old enthused about helping our oceans and making decisions in their daily lives that will have positive impacts on our environment. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air." I believe that if we want to keep those things a possibility, we all need to help out and that is what I encourage all my students to do.
