The team at Camel Dive Club and Hotel firmly believe that their operational activities should not have negative impacts on the marine ecosystem. Eco Tribe was created to coordinate fundraising events, raise awareness of the Red Sea for local schoolchildren and organise lectures given by diving pioneers and marine biologists. Ecotribe is also striving on a daily basis to source more environmentally friendly materials and approaches for use in Camel’s operations.

Big Shark Shout Out Quiz

Camel Dive Club collected 147 signatures for the Give Sharks a Fighting Chance campaign during European Shark Week. At our Divers' Night on Tuesday 18th October, we held a pub quiz with 6 rounds. One round was dedicated to the Apex predator and the teams (comprised mainly of local instructors and diving centre guests) did them proud! Prizes for the top 3 teams comprised of meals in the Camel food and beverage outlets and booty from the Tribe shop. Winners Team Management (our operations mangers!) kindly donated their prizes BACK to the guests and staff! MORE

Rubbish Refreshment!

Dive for Debris month was a HUGE success this September at Camel Dive Club. 79 guests took part, 13 dive sites were cleaned and 195 kilos was pulled from the Red Sea floor! All volunteers were rewarded with ice cold refreshments in the Camel Bar on our Tuesday Diver's Nights.

Diving for Debris September 2011

There have been some interesting clean-up projects at Camel Dive Club in the past. International Clean Up Day 2010 saw many Sharm dive centres unite in cleaning the waters underneath Naama Bay jetty. Despite the debris, many of us were surprised by the beauty of the marine life found there, and of course it was a new dive site! Camel lifted one tonne of rubbish from the sea floor that day. In 2009 we had the Clean Up Tour, which involved cleaning 15 dive sites in 15 days, with the help of our guests as well as instructors. MORE

A Splash of Colour

Following the success of their Fantastic Fish art contest last year, Camel Dive Club decided to hold a Colouring Competition for this year’s World Ocean Day.

World Oceans Day has been celebrated globally every June 8 since its original proposal in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Mad for Mantas!

The crew at Camel Dive Club have recorded 15 sightings of Giant manta rays (Manta Birostris) during the month of May. We are now creating our own sightings database to help us discover if we see the same individual more than once. This was initiated by Dr Andrea Marshall of Marine Mega Fauna in Mozambique, who came to stay with us last Summer. Andrea believes the mantas in Sharm el Sheikh are juveniles. MORE
