The Alberta Underwater Council (AUC) is the non-profit, representative body for underwater activities in the Province of Alberta. The main functions of the AUC provided by numerous & dedicated volunteers over the past 50+ years are safety, education & information - keeping scuba divers & underwater sports enthusiasts (u/w hockey players) and their clubs aware of the issues affecting them. Since 1960, the AUC has been active in issues includes scuba divers' right to dive, dive training & dive safety standards, marine ecology, legislation, conservation, underwater archeology & heritage, preservation of underwater environments and development of youth underwater programs like Snorkeling, Underwater Hockey Intros and Discover Scuba program for High Schools, Youth Groups, etc, in Alberta. The volunteer scuba divers in Alberta have proudly removed an estimate of over 30 tons of debris from Alberta's lakes & waterways since 1975. An annual estimate of 3-4 tons are removed every year at 8-10 different annual lake cleanups by over 350 participants above & below the surface!
