calipso foundation for reef conservation efforts sits Santa marta, in the caribean coast of colombia. we work through dive centers on coral growth in underwater nursery, including special coral gardener course (5 days) designed for that matter. we offer volunteers program of a formal educational work with the local fishermen community, practicing of coral gardenning procedure and investigative work through the local university.
our social work in the village of taganga is concentrated in creating more awareness about the conservation work and human impacts on the ocean and it is been done with activities of cleaning, recycling and various educative games and workshops
the coral nursery, part of coral gardening concept, designed and probed by various worldwide investigation (profesor baruch rinkevich et al) and been sank in the national park tayrona 18 months ago while the foundation and calipso dive center managed it with the coordination of the national park athoroties (and biologist) and the local university of Jorge Tadeo Lozano. we ofer learning how to grow corals in underwater nurseries, teory lessons of reef structure, degradation and restoration through our biologists. we help creating leaders through our volunteers to plan and project good ideas of creating awareness in places where people have not much chances of green studies.
