Dive Against Debris to Support ICC 2012

First, I really want to thank all of those who helped make this event a success. We had divers, safety observers, kayak surface support, and data collectors. As a result of all of your efforts, we collected over 1,500 pounds of debris from the waters! Everyone did a great job, and I thank you all.

Ballast Point Pier Dive Cleanup on April 21, 2012

Our Ballast Point Pier Dive Cleanup to support Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful's "Great American Cleanup" event started a little rocky; as we had two storm fronts that were coming through our area. Luckily for us, our cleanup was right in between the two fronts. Parks Services were gracious enough to close the pier early for us during the dive cleanup, and our local dive shop (World of Water) provided tanks and equipment for the dive. I had may available to the divers the option to come out earlier than planned, in the effort to beat the weather. Bec

Fort De Soto Bay Pier Dive Cleanup

We had a very successful dive cleanup at Fort De Soto's Bay Pier on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Fort Desoto is the largest park in Florida's Pinellas County Park system and comprises 5 islands totaling 1,136 acres of land: Mullet Key, Madelaine Key, St. Jean Key, St. Christopher Key, and Bonne Fortune Key. The main island is Mullet Key.

Jules Verne Park and Ballast Point Pier Dive Cleanup

So, although this is not my first Project AWARE dive that I have coordinated, here is my first blog: We had 100 local Tampa Florida volunteers and scuba divers participate in a combined event last Saturday, 17 September 2011, at the Jules Verne Park at Ballast Point Pier.
