I have lived in tropical Puerto Rico for more than 20 years, and for the last eight I've lived in the coastal town of Dorado. My preferred snorkeling spot is at Dorado Beach, where the protective breakwaters installed 60 years ago have created a natural aquarium. Two years ago I caught Puerto Rico's first official lionfish. Since then it has been my mission to control the lionfish population and educate the public about the threat they pose. The "Dorado Lionfish Posse" is a group of volunteers who remove lionfish, train others on removal, educate students (through dissections and more) on the threat posed to the reef ecosystem, and urge restaurants to put the tasty invader on their menus.
