Matchbox Media Collective is a creative multimedia network that produces work aiming to create a social impact. We think that media in all its forms can act as a powerful agent of change, and we believe in the increasingly influential role of the public. By giving the public more control and influence over the production process, we are able to reach out to an empowered and global audience. We use crowdfunding and crowdsourcing as production strategies and distribute our work with copyleft licenses.

Our objective is to produce inspiring and informative media by bridging the gap between maker and viewer.

Just a few lines to share the latest news before leaving for Cape Verde ...

Thanks to everyone who participated and made the event in Bologna possible, it has been a great success! Some very welcoming friends have opened 3 adjacent houses in the historical center of the city and offered canapés and refreshments to more than one hundred people who attended the two presentations by Matchbox Media and Sandgrains.

Sandgrains is a crowdfunded documentary about EU overfishing in Cape Verde, produced by Matchbox Media Collective.

Awareness is growing of the damage we are doing to our seas through pollution and over-exploitation. Not only is marine wildlife threatened; small communities around the globe that rely on the sea for survival are being pushed to the brink by short-sighted and chronically inefficient fisheries management practices.

Sandgrains is gearing up for production in Cape Verde in 2012.

We are very pleased to have renowned underwater photographer and filmmaker Andrew Sutton shooting our underwater scenes by the coast of the Cape Verdean island Santiago.
