Based in Cuba for my work since mid 2008, I have taken this great opportunity to go further into the diving world that I had discovered years before while in Mauritius. Because of obvious political problems, there are no PADI centers in Cuba but there are at least three certified PADI instructors living there and I have been lucky to find one who, in the course of time has become a real friend.
After having discovered the fantastic treasures of the Carribbean sea with him while taking my certifications Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, plus several specializations (digital photo, Nitrox), I am now on the edge of making one leap forward by taking the PADI Divemaster class.
In my three years of diving in the numerous sites that Cuba offers, I have been struck by the damaged caused to the reefs and fishes. What, few months ago was still inhabited by various varieties of tropical fishes are now almost desert... Also, some precious reefs are being under stress because of human pollution.
My objectives for the remaining time that I will stay in Cuba is to encourage my friends to become certified PADI divers, of course, and by becoming so, assist me in cleaning the dive sites where we usually go.
