User Profile
The Pacific Islands Conservation Initiative (PICI) is a charitable trust in the Cook Islands. It's mission is to work in the tropical Pacific to preserve species, habitats and communities through the provision of sound science, establishment of programmes and advocacy for legislative protection. The intent is to work with communities to apply conservation practices that promote sustainable use of their resources so that no further degradation occurs to the fragile ecosystems of the Pacific. Where community level conservation practices are not viable, then PICI intends to work at the National level to effect conservation. PICI is currently involved in three main projects: Cook Islands Turtle Project, Cook Islands Shark Sanctuary and the Aitutaki Lagoon Monitoring Project.
