Welcome to Saltstraumen. Known for it's rich marine life and high speed drift dives, surrounded by snow covered mountains and the midnight sun.
Saltstraumen has the world’s strongest tidal current and it can reach up to 26 knots. Every sixth hours more then 375 million cubic litres of water passes the narrow and shallow straight of Saltstraumen. This creates the worlds famous Maelstrom and it’s whirlpools. The nutrition rich water feeds a uniquely rich fauna and marine life. Here you have the chance to encounter large shoals of cods and coalfish that darken the surface above you. Come face to face with the amazing wolf fish and find numerous kinds of nudi branches among all the colourful anemones and kelp forest.
With its amazing fish life and exhilarating diving Saltstraumen has been ranked one of National Geographic’s top ten dive areas in the world. It has also been chosen among many others as one of the Wild Wonders of Europe,
