I recently had the pleasure of visiting Gili Trawangan, Lombok for a few days and I was really excited to see this sign displayed prominently on the beach AND smaller versions were also hanging in every room of the hotel I stayed at. I asked and discovered that nearly all hotels on the island have the signs hanging up in guest rooms or their bathrooms. This is such a great idea which has been developed and distributed by the Gili Eco Trust. It's inspiring to see tourism being dealt with and managed so conscienciously. My next project???

Following on from my promise to run a Project AWARE workshop with every Divemaster in Training that I mentor my most recent DMT Georgia helped to clean up the House Reef and practise her rig and lift skills by raising this tyre! All of my DMT's now have a workshop introducing them to the Project AWARE web site, materials available for download, marine debris reporting and data collection and cleaning up! Well done Georgia and congratulations on becoming a Divemaster!!

This week we had another very successful clean up on Lembongan House Reef and we managed to clear up around 40 kilos of debris ranging from plastic bottles to sea weed farming stakes! I have decided that to develop a new generation of PADI professionals who care about the environment and who are aware of how awesome Project AWARE is, every Dive Master Trainee that I teach has to organise an AWARE event.

Yesterday was a great day - not only did I finish the Open Water Course that I have been teaching but I also got to take my students to Manta Bay where they were awed by the amazing mantas and I spotted some mantas that are already in my Database AND 2 NEW ones - I'll be updating the database soon so keep checking in at 'Manta Ray Database - Nusa Penida' on Facebook! In the meantime I'll be back at work tomorrow and collecting trash!
