Bio

A little bit about me.

I am very lucky to have been able to make the island of Gili Trawangan my home. I am an IDC Staff Instructor, and work as the General Manager of Trawangan Dive Centre.

It is my goal to make TDC different from the other shops on the island. As well as providing all ranges of PADI courses taught to the highest possible standard, I want our divers to be more aware of the aquatic environment.

I love my job, and want to help preserve the environment through education and awareness, so others can enjoy the same opportunities that I have had.

Save the Sharks - AWARE Shark Conservation Distinctive Speciality

Sharks are crucial to marine ecosystems. They maintain a balance in populations of prey species and keep the ocean healthy by removing ill or diseased animals. They are an important resource supporting local economies through fishing and as an attraction to dive tourists.

But sharks are in global decline. Overfishing has reduced many shark populations around the world to levels that threaten their continued existence. Shark numbers have fallen by more than 80% in many cases and the continued existence of some species is at immediate risk in some regions.

AWARE Month

Trawangan Dive has kick started AWARE month with a Dive Against Debris. Divers went out on the 2nd April to clean up the house reef.

Debris found included large amounts of fishing net, big tarpaulin and loads of tiles.

This month will be full of AWAREness, including beach clean ups, dives against debris - 100% AWARE, quiz nights with sharky themes, Shark Distinctive Speciality Courses being taught and much much more.

Dive Against Debris

On 16th February, divers from Trawangan Dive Centre ventured out for our first official dive against debris.

We had been experiencing some pretty terrible weather and huges swells. As a result most of the rubbish washed up onto the beach, so once that was cleared up, we decided to tackle what was left under the water.
