I live in Perth, Western Australia. I overcame a fear of opening my eyes underwater to do a trial dive at Rottnest Island in Feb 2006. I loved it and did my open water in Mar 06, followed by advanced in April 06 and a first club dive trip to Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef, including the Navy Pier, in May 06.
After gaining more experience I did my rescue dive course in Sept 07. All of this training was with Malibu Dive in Perth who have alas now closed.
My partner, Jo Small and I like to dive as regularly as we can and we base our holidays around diving. We have been to the Red Sea at Dahab, Egypt, including the Blue Hole; the Solomon Islands at Honiara and Tulagi, with various wrecks including the 60 metre Aaron Ward dive; Thailand - the Similan Islands; the Abroholos Islands off WA; Bali - Tulamben and Menangen Island; Albany - The HMAS Perth; Dunsborough - the HMAS Swan and Busselton Jetty; Byron Bay - Julian Rocks; Vanuatu - including Hideaway Island and the 60 metre SS. Coolidge; East Borneo from Kapalai Dive Resort, including Sipadan Island.
In the light of outrageous media reports that are trying to whip up a frenzy about sharks being monsters that prey on humans, I've made several passionate protests on facebook today.
Here is the latest official news report though. Watch through to the second guy, who actually knows a bit about sharks.
