- My Summary
From a young age I had always wanted to scuba dive but getting married/divorced and raising my daughter alone came first. Back then when I was a 25yr old single parent I promised myself that, at the age of 45, I would do it and 24 years later I actually got to pass my OW! Since then I have thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience of SCUBA, and am now studying for my Divemaster which I hope to complete by the end of the year. I've done some liveaboards and have signed up for my 3rd Project Shark in the Red Sea. This is a liveaboard with a recognised shark conservationist where we dive with and photograph Oceanic White Tips (if we're lucky), Elke, the expert, then logs any new sharks noting their markings, etc. This, for me, fired up an interest in sharks and shark conservation and that has lead to an interest in marine conservation. Once I gain my Divemaster qualification I will be looking to become more involved in marine conservation and hopefully take a more active role. I am also interested in marine mammal rescue and will be participating in a marine mammal medic course in June 2012. Until I dived the Red Sea and our own North Sea I didn't realise how mankind completely abuses these precious environments and marine life in general. I have reached a stage in my diving where I want to use the skills I have gained thus far to help preserve our precious oceans, reefs and the marine life within. Until my training is completed I am limited to projects in the UK, but once I qualify I will be looking to complete an internship abroad. So if you are running any cleanups anywhere in the UK please give me a shout because if I can help I will. Likewise if you run an establishment that offers internships for Divemasters please contact me.
