Action Highlights

One area of Dahab that should be beautiful but is unfortunately known for the plastic bags flying and getting stuck in the shrubs is the Lagoon area south of Islands dive site.

This was the first time Rocket Friends Diving organising the Dive Against Debris program. Our objective is to promote the ocean clean-up. For those unable to join the activities due to limited vacancy, please accept out apology. The activities were carried out in two days.

On the first day, 10-OCT-2015, team A went to Bayside Bay and Whisky Bay. Bad weather and low visibility made us unable to clean up the fishing nets in water deeper than 8 meters. However, we still collected 41.8kg debris including bottles, tin cans and a scuba tank with 1st stage.

I have organized a Dive Against Debris Program, at Shams Resort, Abhor Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 16/10/2015 with 33 participants (Divers & Instructor), the diving sight was very beautiful with a lot of  amazing corals and lot of fishes and the visibility of diving was very clear view.

We have taken out the following kind of garbage.

We did it. Our team not only surveyed our local underwater environment at Bala Falls to remove and report the data on the debris we found but we sold tickets to the action to raise funds for Project AWARE Foundation.

A huge thanks to the team of volunteers making a diferent in our local community but also globally through the work of Project AWARE Foundation.

So, we have just completed our Dive Against Debris in the upper reaches of the Waikato River between Cheery Island and Reids Farm in Taupo. This has to be one of the most beautiful areas of New Zealand with the town wrapped around  the northern part of the spectacular Lake Taupo and the snow covered mountains creating a great backdrop at the southern end.

So our second major cleanup took place on Friday, September 25th at the Jay Street Bridge in Lock Haven.  Four years ago this area was cleaned and since then a number of storms with high water brought back enough material to warrant another cleanup.

On Sunday, September 20, 2015 in Torbole sul Garda the third edition of the event Leave Your Finstep was held.  AMBIENTE ACQUA, PADI IDC 5 star dive centre organized it in partnership with the city of Torbole on Garda Lake. 

It was a day dedicated to the ecological cleaning of the seabed.

The event has counted the participation of about 60 people, including more than 50 divers who dived to engage actively in the collection of waste.

Our new Divemasters organised and ran our big clean up event at Seaview Marina.
The morning weather was cold and once the hail started we wondered if our divers would show up - but of course they did. They figured it would be warmer underwater than staying on the surface.

What an awesome effort! Between 5 divers; in 90 minutes, we pulled out 20 cans, 16 straws, 1 knife, 1 spear shaft, 1 fishing rod and reel, 2 knife scabbards, 5 plastic cups, 7lbs of lead, 5 thongs, 1 bong, 1 syringe, 142 assorted glass bottles, 3 bottle fragments, 25 assorted plastic bags, 1/2 a rugby jersey, partial engine/motor block approx 4km fishing line, a pair of sunglasses, assorted hooks and fishing lures. It filled up an entire wheelie bin!
