Organize: Marine Debris
Scuba Professionals, Conservation Managers and Environmental Leaders:
Marine debris is an epidemic in your community, country and worldwide. But since 1993, Project AWARE and partners like you, have been recognized as an ever-increasing part of the solution. We've tackled marine debris problems underwater and along the shore. And together, we'll continue facing these challenges, motivating volunteers and pushing for concrete policy solutions.
From tires to car parts, plastics to fishing line and everywhere in between - you can help influence change, one piece of debris at a time. As a result of volunteer-driven data collection efforts, we know that as much as 70 percent of all marine debris is found underwater - making your underwater cleanup efforts with Project AWARE that much more significant. Because once trash makes it to the water, it remains a continual threat to marine wildlife and humans.
Organize an underwater or shoreline cleanup during September's annual International Cleanup Day event or any time of year.
As a Project AWARE Cleanup Organizer You:
- Receive cleanup tools and materials geared specifically to your event including data collection cards, certificates for volunteers, sample press releases, videos, event organization tips and more where available.
- Commit to reporting your cleanup event data to inform policy decisions and contribute knowledge for change.
- Submit cleanup images to inspire individuals and visually describe debris issues.
