Organize: Coral Reefs
Scuba Professionals, Resource Managers and Conservation Leaders:
Project AWARE partners with CoralWatch, a nonprofit research organization from the University of Queensland, Australia, to involve divers and snorkelers in monitoring coral bleaching.
CoralWatch makes monitoring coral reefs easy. The CoralWatch chart uses a series of color shades representing different stages of bleaching and recovery. Just match the intensity of the coral color with the corresponding color block on the chart, record the color code along with the type of coral on the data sheet, and report your data. You'll see results in an instant and track the condition of your reef locations over time.
Become a Project AWARE CoralWatch Dive Operator and contribute data analyzed by scientists to better understand coral bleaching and recovery patterns, as well as the severity and duration of bleaching events.
As CoralWatch Operator You:
- Receive a CoralWatch Operator kit developed specifically for you including monitoring guides and information, CoralWatch monitoring charts, training and educational materials for a team of 10 divers and a CD ROM containing helpful resources to conduct regular monitoring activities.
- Commit to regular monitoring and reporting of your CoralWatch data.
- Sign up to receive bleaching alerts or view near-real-time data for selected reef sites around the globe.
