In August this year a cruise ship anchor destroyed a 12,000 square foot area of coral reef close to Don Fosters Dive Shop in George Town, Grand Cayman. Volunteers are needed to help in removing rubble and salvaging live coral on the site. Anyone can volunteer to help, so long as they are dive certified and have DAN insurance. Anyone who wishes to volunteer can go to the Cayman Magic Reef Recovery Facebook page for details. Dives are scheduled every weekend.

Situated off the coast of Padang, West Sumatra is the little island of Sinjaru - completely ringed by a white sandy shoreline. Beneath the surface are coral-encrusted sea walls and a fringing reef that serves as home to myriad fish and other marine flora/fauna, both resident and pelagic. Also calling this little piece of island paradise home are a handful of hawksbill turtles that feed and frolic along the reef system just off the shore.
