Rocker Joe Perry Raises Funds for Project AWARE
You may know him best as the electrifying lead guitarist for one of America's greatest rock bands, Aerosmith. But Joe Perry is more than just a rocker, he's also a passionate scuba diver and volunteer whose support for underwater conservation has lead him to participate in underwater cleanup and data collection efforts.
In November 2009, Perry named Project AWARE Foundation his Charity of Choice for Toshiba and GQ Magazine's fundraiser featuring "men of innovative talent". A series of customized, limited-edition laptops were created to reflect each star's lifestyle and personality.
Four of Perry's "street art" Toshiba Qosmio X505's featured custom art designed with the multi-platinum, multi-award-winning recording artist and were an auction prize worth holding your lighter up for.
The laptops dedicated to Project AWARE, featured in GQ's December 2009 issue, raised nearly US $2000 in auction proceeds each. In total, nearly $6000 will benefit Project AWARE Foundation's initiatives to conserve underwater environments including coral reef monitoring and marine debris cleanup and prevention.
