Our 4th annual Earth Day celebration with a full day of environmental activities and projects. The day will kick off with land clean-ups in all 3 villages on the island, starting at 9am and heading down all the beaches and roads. Following the land clean-up, we will head down to the reefs for an underwater clean-up. Many dive schools have signed up to join, and the idea is to each clean in our respected Adopt-A-Reef site or another chosen location to maximize the impact of our efforts.
Active duty United States Service Members, civilians, and local community members joined forces to conduct a Heroes of Planet Earth (H.O.P.E) seawall cleanup and Dive Against Debris Survey on 10 April 2013 at Chatan-cho, Okinawa, Japan. Approximately 50 pounds of solid waste from the seawall and 30 pounds of solid waste from the coral reef were collected during the event hosted by USMC Camps Foster and Lester celebrating Earth Day and Tomodachi (Friendship) Days.
