About Pulau Pramuka:

It is one of the largest and inhabited island of the Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands) archipelago at the Jakarta Bay. The island is located approximately 30 nautical miles north of Jakarta and could be reach within an hour by using fast boat from Marina Ancol. Pulau Pramuka is surrounded by several other islands, such as: Pulau Panggang, Pulau Pari, Pulau Tidung, Pulau Putri, Pulau Sepa, Pulau Kotok, Pulau Semak Daun and Pulau Melinju.


Pulau Pramuka is part of the Kepulauan Seribu Marine National Park with various kind of marine conservation, preservation and research activities engaged by many scientists, students and organizations. Some of the conservation and preservation projects done at the marine park are:


  1. Turtle conservation;
  2. Sea eagle conservation;
  3. Mangrove planting and preservation;
  4. Reef planting and conservation.


Many tourists visit the island on weekends and doing various mode of activities such as relaxing, beach walking, snorkeling, scuba diving and island hopping, besides taking part in conservation efforts. There are smaller islands around Pulau Pramuka such as Pulau Semak Daun which is a very interesting island for relaxing by the beach. Pulau Semak Daun is only about 25 minutes boat ride from the main island using traditional fishing boat or 10 minutes by fast boat.


On the island there are residents whose daily routines are mainly as fishermen, traders and supporters for the local tourism. As the capital city of the Kepulauan Seribu Regency (Kabupaten Kepulauan Seribu), there are government offices, general hospital, mosque and school present on the island. There are many small shops offering sundry goods, refreshments as well as souveniers for tourists. Getting food is easy as there are taverns or rumah makan available to satisfy the hungries. Across Pulau Pramuka, about 10 minutes boat ride, there is an exclusive floating restaurant serving good oriental and traditional seafood meals. The restaurant which is also a fish farm, has a beautiful wooden setting and nice ambience. Exclusive yachts or upscale tourist usually visits this restaurant during their trip to the Kepulauan Seribu area.


Accomodation for tourists are in the form of simply managed but clean and neat villas and homestays. Most of these accomodations are equipped with airconditioning and fresh, clean water. However, electricity is only available between 4p.m. in the afternoon until 7a.m. in the morning, so please make sure to charge your camera or handphone batteries at night while electric power is available. GSM and 3G internet signals are strong around the island, so don’t have to worry of losing contact with the world.
