Children from Kids United, L'Escala's casal (summer school) helped Project AWARE by taking part in a beach cleanup at Port den Perris in L'Escala on the 22nd of July 2010.

The kids had spent the week at the summer school learning about marine conservation and the harm caused to marine creatures by rubbish in the sea. They made a big effort and were able to spot the tiniest bits of rubbish.

The 20 children who ranged in age from 4 to 11 cleaned the beach of small pieces of litter and plastics and collected a total of almost 200 cigarette filters!

They enjoyed meeting  Scuba, the Portuguese Water Dog, so much that they adopted him as their school mascot!

The children made an art work from some of the litter collected, which went on to win second prize in the Project AWARE Photo Competition! Well done Kids United!
