My Summary

Hi I’m Heather :).

I have a passion for people, education and all things biological, not to mention enjoying having a good dance boogie, baking goodies, and smiling a lot.

A born and breed New Zealander I completed my Master’s degree in Marine Biology at the end of 2009 studying the effects of environment on marine sponges in New Zealand and Indonesia.  I caught the travel bug and spent the most part of 2010 travelling around the world participating in volunteer conservation work in the Ecuadorian Amazon and on the shore’s of Costa Rica protecting breeding turtle species.  Between 2011 and 2012 I spent a year volunteering in the Philippines for Coral Cay Conservation as the Education Officer, teaching in schools about coral reef protection, running environmental events, conducting Marine Protected Area surveys, and training local communities in coastal resource management.  At the same time I managed to complete my Dive Master!

I now work for the Central Caribbean Marine Institute as the Education and Programmes Coordinator.  My aim is to have a career working with communities to help educate and promote sustainable use and protection of the marine environment.
