- My Summary
Im Tracey, a Scuba Instructor in Sunny Dunedin at the bottom of the South Island in the land of the long white cloud, New Zealand. I've been diving for about 9years but always spent my time on and in the water since a very young age.
Since as long as I can remember I've had a love for the ocean which I think I probably inherited from my Dad who has taught me a lot about being on the water and who has recently been re-introduced to diving so we could spend time together underwater as well as on top.
I am passionate about preserving our ocean resources in partiuclar fisheriers. In my early years I spent a lot of time fishing and coming from one of the best game fishing places in the world was surrounded by big fish being weighed in - this was the norm for Whakatane over summer. You would always hear on the radio about the next marlin being weighed in etc. But over the years these radio broadcasts got less and less and even as a youngster I remember thinking that something was up.
This all got me thinking and got me into Marine Science and as a 10year old I had the idea that I was going to fix the world's fisheries. I studied Zoology as an undergraduate at the University of Otago and then went on to complete a Masters in Marine Science. I quickly learnt that fixing the world's fisheries might not be as easy as the 10year old me thought it might have been, but if now I can even help out a little bit that would be a good thing.
I am now currently a Scuba Instructor working at Dive Otago Ltd. and helping to teach new instructors who in turn will teach a whole host of new divers and hopefully we will have a multitude of new divers who also have a passion for conserving the underwater world for generations to come.
